The Minervois spans 2 departments, the Aude
and the Herault and stretches from Carcassonne to
Narbonne and northwards towards the Montagne Noire from the Canal du
Midi. It is a place of fantastic beauty with an incredible history. At
its heart is the village of Minerve which 800 years ago sheltered a
small group of Cathars from the Popes mercenary Simon du Montfort. The
siege ended in a bloody massacre and the lives of the people are
remembered
with a stone-carved dove outside the little church in the
town of Minerve. Minerve is perched over the meeting of 2 rivers the
Cesse and the Brian. These rivers have tunnelled through deep gorges and
are surrounded by garrigue smothered hills. You can also visit
Caunes-Minervois famed for its pink marble and the picturesque abbey and
surrounded by vineyards and hiding little chapels and churches amongst
them.
All the vineyards face south in this beautiful part of the Languedoc and the resulting wines are often elegant and brimming with fruit and the perfume of the herbs growing in the wild garrigue. In 1998 the first and so far the only cru of the Minervois was created, La Livinière. The area lies in the foothills of the Montagne Noire surrounding the pretty village of the same name.

Minervois Cruisers

Constantia
Constantia is a traditional ivy-covered village property overlooking the Canal du Midi in the enchanting hamlet of le Somail. Behind the house the vast vineyards of the Minervois stretch away north to the Montagne Noire, and to the west orchards of peach and nectarine provide delicious fresh fruit in season. This two bedroomed house offers magnificent split-level open plan living and a well-equipped kitchen and a roof terrace with barbeque plus a pool. There are two excellent canalside restaurants in Somail, a supermarket is just 2kms away, the lovely old town of Narbonne 13kms, and the Mediterranean beaches 26kms. Le Somail is a perfect location within easy reach of beaches, lakes and mountains and Constantia is an ideal base from which to explore this fascinating region.
L'Ancienne Boulangerie

'Au Pont Romain' is situated in the foothills of the Montagne Noire and just a 15 minute stroll from the village of Caunes-Minervois and offers wonderful chambre d'hote, apartment and gite accommadation. There are a number of apartments available such as 'Le Jardin' which is a bright, spacious suite with 2 bedrooms. La Montagne is a lovely two storey Gite with a large patio, La Riviere is a superb three bedroom Gite beside the river, which sleeps six people. Le Pont has specular views of the garden and mountains beyond and Le Moulin is a characterful one bedroom gite on two floors. Finally there is L'Olivette situated just opposite Au Pont Romain and nestling in a hillside of olives. This is a completely private villa with absolutely stunning scenery. La Maison Verte
La Maison Verte was built about 400 years ago, directly onto the medieval walls of the village of Caunes-Minervois. This two-storey stone village house enjoys unobstructed views across vineyards towards the Pyrénées Mountains in the distance. Inside, three sun-filled double bedrooms all face south. Two of the bedrooms have double beds and one has two single beds, accommodating five to six guests, although four people would be ideal. Crisp cotton bedlinen, pillows and towels are provided. The mattresses are new and comfortable. One bedroom has an en suite bathroom with basin and lavatory. The other bathroom has a shower, basin and lavatory. Both bathrooms are on the first floor.

particularly ideal for two families, couples or groups holidaying

of Marseillette, which enjoys the distinction of having the famous Canal
du Midi running through one side of the village and the river Aude
through the other.

the wonderful village of Caunes-Minervois close to the world heritage
site of La Cité, Carcassonne, this recently rennovated, delightful
village house stretches over 4 storeys. It has 2 terraces over-looking
the medieval village of Caunes-Minervois with its twisting narrow
streets that surround the magnificent 8th century Abbey that lies at its
heart. It is in the grounds of the Abbey that delightful open-air
classical music concerts take place from July to early August each year.
The property has 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms and sleeps 6 in comfort. It
has been thoughtfully and stylishly renovated in 2008 and benefits from a
new kitchen and new bathrooms, whilst still retaining many of the
original features of the house. It’s just a few steps away from the
centre of village and the attractive shops where you can buy bread, meat
and all your day-to-day needs.
Parc de Lignieres

Lignieres is a traditional 17th century Maison de Maitre
situated in the middle of an ancient village, Trausse de Minervois, in
the Languedoc region. 
The village is
surrounded by vineyards, and is only a few minutes walk from the
foothills of the Montaigne Noir. This former wine maker’s family house,
which covers 250 square meters inside, is simply laid out. Upstairs
there are five double bedrooms sleeping 12 comfortably. The
large swimming pool in the rear garden was build in 2007 and is set in
an area where there is maximum sun during the day. To the front of the
house is a private courtyard, surrounded by the walls of the house and
barns. The courtyard is very private and can be a sun trap. All the
shuttered doors to the house open onto the courtyard, and you can enjoy
breakfast on the lawn. Twelve Lime and Chestnut trees provide shelter
from the summer sun, and are often nested in during the Spring.

and living room on the floor in between - perfect for two couples
travelling together. Walls are original stone, or hand-plastered and

Lou Ciganlou
Lou Ciganlou is a
beautifully restored village house with garden and view over the
vineyards, near Minerve situated in the quiet hamlet of Babio at a mere 3
kms from La Caunette and around 8 kms from Minerve. The house has a
fully equipped kitchen (dish washer washing machine, induction cooker,
oven, coffee maker etc), dining room with French windows onto terrace,
lounge, 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. The lovely shaded garden is just
across the quiet little village road from the terrace. It has romantic
corners to sit and relax and a delicious view on the vineyards and the
distant hills. There is ample garden furniture and of course a fine BBQ.
Just the place to read or to have dinner under the stars accompanied by
the music of the cigales...
The owner has a well developed sense of styling. She has furnished and decorated the house with a wonderful eye for detail. A well balanced combination of modern comfort and brocante furniture. The walls have been painted with delicate pastels: beige, lavender and pale yellow. A wonderful French village house.

arguably the prettiest village in the renowned Minervois wine growing area. It is situated on the River Cesse – the house is only a 2 minute stroll from the river pool which provides unique safe swimming. A natural swimming pool has been created within the bed of the river.
