Places to Stay in the Corbières
This is the largest region in the
Languedoc-Roussillon and offers the visitor just about everything. From
wild craggy countryside to wonderful sandy beaches. There are many
places of note to visit such as the 900 year old Fontfoid
abbey and the
magical village of Lagrasse. You should also make time to visit some of
the Cathar castles found in the Corbières especially Peyrepertuse whose
name is derived from pierre percée, "pierced rock".
The Corbières is the largest and one of the most important wine regions in the Languedoc and produces exciting, dense and herby red and rosé wines and a small amount of increasingly well made whites. The region has been divided into 11 terroir with the Boutenac being the only cru. This small district is not typical of the region having low wooded hills of red soil and is producing some of the finest wines the Languedoc produces.
We concentrate our tours in the Boutenac region where we visit some of the top class producers and we also taste honey in the pretty village of Monseret which is renowned for its honey flavored with thyme, rosemary and lavender.
We have found some fabulous places for you to stay in the Corbières
